Recreational vehicles have increased in popularity. They are being used as travel trailers and even full-time homes. If you are looking to purchase an RV, but the price tag of new motorhomes is a little bit too much, check online and government auction sites. They are a great way to find a bargain and save some money. However, you need to know what you’re looking for and what you are looking at, before making that winning bid. Here are a few tips to help you become an RV auction pro!
1. Do your research
Take the time to do some research about the various makes and models of the RV’s that are available. Do you know how long you want or don’t want it to be? Some people are intimidated by a large vehicle and are afraid to drive a long RV. What is the motor size? What is the gas mileage? Know what RV types and RVs satisfy your needs.
2. Are you buying cheap to fix it up?
Many RVs at auctions are not inspected or licensed for the road. If you can’t hear it run or feel how it drives, rethink the purchase. Are you going to fix it up? Many RV owners buy them and totally gut them and just use them for toy haulers. Make sure to take into consideration average repair cost before going to an auction so you can stay within your budget.
3. Online government auction services
There are government auctions and there are company auctions. A government auction is usually selling the items because the item has completed the stipulated mileage or age. There is an upside and a downside to this. Look at the pictures and read the description thoroughly. If there is a scheduled day to do a preview and look at an RV, do it.
4. Online company auctions
An online auction company could be a local auction service or a popular online auction site that does not include government vehicles. Usually, local RV dealerships that are going out of business and private parties use this type online auction service. Check the Better Business Bureau rating to ensure they are in good standings.
5. Important things to check after purchase
Now that you bought it, make sure to make the necessary checks and replacements. Check all lines, including water and sewage hookups. Change out all fluids. Thoroughly check the generator. Test all electrical components. Detailed cleaning is a must. Replace the old RV mattress, get a new comfortable mattress and start your traveling right (we have mattresses for all sizes of campers and RV’s and at affordable prices to fit your budget).
Good luck at the auction, we hope you find what you are looking for!
