Choosing the Right Mattress for Your RV

RV Mattresses for Sale

There are a lot of great reasons to invest in an RV. You’ll have the opportunity to travel in comfort, thoroughly enjoy and experience your surroundings, and save money with efficient and quality transportation and lodging right at your fingertips!

Something to consider as you’re outfitting your RV with everything you need for your upcoming adventures is how to get the best night’s sleep during your travels. If you’re constantly tired and sore from sleeping on an inferior quality RV mattress, you won’t be able to take full advantage of your time on the road.

Here’s what you need to know when it comes to choosing a mattress for your RV:

Innerspring mattresses: avoid them.

Spring mattresses have a support system made up of coils. They’re typically anywhere from eight to sixteen inches in height, which is generally too big to fit in an RV. Some manufacturers modify innerspring mattresses to be smaller and more suitable for an RV, but they do this by reducing the height of their coils.

Short coils don’t offer a lot of support, so you’ll likely be rolling around on a lot of lumps and bumps throughout the night if you go with a spring mattress. This will leave you feeling stiff, tired, and probably cranky.

Memory foam mattresses: it depends.

A memory foam mattress is constructed with a top layer of memory foam and a firmer support mattress underneath. To really experience the plush comfort of the memory foam, this top layer needs to be about 2 inches thick.

Custom RV Mattresses

In an RV, this typically leaves you with only 3 inches of support mattress—which is not a lot. Chances are, it will compress while you sleep and leave you vulnerable to feeling every screw and slat in your bunk. However, if a memory foam mattress is manufactured by a company that specializes in RVs, they can be an excellent choice for your vehicle.

At Replacement Mattress, for example, our memory foam RV mattresses are designed to fit a standard (or custom-sized) RV bunk—not modified to fit. This allows us to supply a 5 ½ -inch base of premium, high density foam to offer the ultimate support for a quality night’s sleep.

Foam mattresses: your best bet.

When it comes to finding the perfect RV mattress, foam is probably as close as you’re going to get. Foam is flexible enough to be customized to virtually any RV bunk size, strong enough to support your body, and comfortable enough to offer you a relaxing night of sleep.

Look for something made with high-density foam, as this will make the thickest, most durable, and most comfortable mattress. A higher density foam means there is more material per square foot, and therefore more solid foundation to hold you up. And as a bonus, foam mattresses are pretty affordable too!

No matter where life takes you, you’re going to need a sturdy and comfortable place to lay your head at the end of the night.

The RV mattresses we provide at Replacement Mattress can be customized to fit any vehicle without sacrificing quality in any area.
