Proper rest is a key component of happiness and health. If you have sleep difficulties, consider aromatherapy solutions instead of alcohol or sleeping pills.
What is Aromatherapy?
Sometimes known as essential oil therapy, aromatherapy is the use of specific aromatic plant extracts for treating mental, emotional, spiritual and physical disruptions. These treatments are designed to restore bodily harmony.
Can Aromatherapy Help You Sleep?
You can use aromatherapy to aid in relaxation at the end of the day. However, for maximum effectiveness, you should have a regular routine each evening that includes aromatherapy, as well as using a very comfortable sofa bed mattress, RV mattress or marine mattress.
What Essential Oils Should You Use?
* Lavender-One of the most common and safe essential oils, lavender is one of the ideal choices for treating sleeplessness, insomnia and tension. The fresh floral aroma from the little flowers provides sedative properties and is considered one of the safest essential oils in use today.
* Roman Chamomile-Not only does this oil relax muscles, it also reduces tension, anger and general irritability. The crisp, fruity smell eases emotional challenges from PTSD, anxiety and other conditions.
* Clary Sage– This relative to common garden sage has a medicinal history in native Europe. Among the many benefits found with this essential oil is that it works as an antidepressant and anti-anxiety medication. Use in the evening can reduce feelings of loneliness, insecurity and failure.
Tips for Improving Results
* Consider using a bed linen spray for your aromatherapy needs. Use a brand new spray bottle, and fill it with equal parts distilled water and high-proof clear alcohol. For each ounce, add around 10 drops of the essential oils of your choice. Shake the bottle gently, and spray onto your sheets a few minutes before you go to bed.
* Place a few drops on a cotton ball, and place inside of your pillowcase before bed.
* About half an hour before bed, you can add several drops of a relaxing essential oil to one ounce of a carrier oil. Gently massage into your feet.
* When you’re away from home, whether in an RV or on a boat, you can still use essential oils to help you get a good night’s rest. However, make certain that the scent stays in the sleeping room, and air it out before getting on the road.
Caution: never ingest essential oils to heighten the effectiveness. These concentrated compounds have not had proper testing for internal use, and may damage your digestive tract.
Utilize aromatherapy as a sleep aid, whether you are home or away. Select the oils or oils that work well with your personal chemistry, and use the methods that provide the best results for you.
